The Atomic Aquatics T3
Regulator is all about being the absolute best - The
regulator is made from serious high-grade materials that are light, strong, high
performing and corrosion-resistant. The lengths that Atomic go to in order to
achieve such high performance is incredible.
Atomic T3 extends the impressive two year service period to an
unheard-of three year or 300
dive service interval and the regulators are even
covered by a lifetime warranty. The use of such high-grade materials and some
clever patents such as the 'Seat saving orifice' all help to extend the period
between service centre visits without affecting the extremely high reliability
design changes from the previous T2 models have been scrutinised to shave off as
much weight as possible to make the regulators one of the lightest full size,
high-performance regulators available. The A-Clamp frame in particular has seen
huge weight reductions and is no longer a hindrance for travelling divers
compared to DIN valves. The first and stage components are precisely machined
from solid titanium billet. Even the comfort swivel is made of lightweight
titanium rather than coated brass or steel.
first stage is a high flow and performance balanced piston with an environmental
seal to provide full cold
water and contamination protection. The sleek and compact first stage
is fitted with two high-pressure ports, four low-pressure ports around the
circumference of the swivelling turret and low
resistance, high flow low-pressure port on the end of the turret. This is the
default port for the primary second stage.
second stage has been fitted with redesigned internal components to further
reduce the weight of the regulator, increase gas flow and reduce breathing
resistance. The external titanium components have been treated with a PVD
coating to significantly increase the scratch resistance. The T3 has a diver
adjustable inhalation controller on the side of the regulator to increase the
breathing resistance if required. A dual-density silicone
mouthpiece combines an ultra-soft silicone mouthpiece
with harder density teeth tabs that help to prolong the life of the mouthpiece.
The exhaust covers do an excellent job in directing exhaled gas away from the
diver's face and field of view. Previous features such as the seat saving
orifice and automatic flow control have been brought forward into the T3.
'seat saving orifice' works to remove the pressure off the second stage
low-pressure seat when the regulator isn't being used. In a normal regulator,
the orifice is always being pushed into the soft low-pressure seat whenever the
valve isn't open to let air into the second stage. Over time the orifice creates
a grooved ring in the seat which eventually makes the second stage unreliable
and start to let air through even when closed. The seat saving orifice takes the
pressure of the seat when not in use but is pushed into place as soon as the
regulators are pressurised. This significantly improves the reliability and the
required service intervals of the regulator.
most regulators which have a manually adjustable venturi lever, the T3 regulator
is fitted with 'automatic flow control' (AFC) which automatically controls the
flow of air inside the second stage housing, subtly adjusting the performance as
the diver descends and ascends to provide the perfect balance between
performance and reliability.
